STEPS TO BEING HIRED

Step-1

Self-Assessment

Many applicants entering the POST Selection Process are unaware of the detail of investigation into one’s behavioral traits. Errors or omissions can result in disqualification, so the POST Self-assessment tool, although not required, may be helpful.

Step-2

Application

Please complete an application online at Neogov below. If you are a recent graduate of the Academy, sworn officer, or lateral transfer, we highly recommend that you contact one of our recruiting officers to answer any questions you may have beforehand.

Step-3

POST B & Physical Agility Exams

New Recruits will be required to complete the Pellet B test OR the National Testing Network (NTN) exam. RPPD accepts Pellet B results from any POST-certified test provider, including South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium (SBRPSTC).

Step-4

The Oral Board

Every applicant must undertake an oral board exam. You are interviewed on a wide variety of questions – relating to you and your suitability for the role, as well as more critical questions that assess your judgment. This is your opportunity shine!

Step-5

The Personal History Statement (PHS)

Your application to East Bay Regional Park District Police Department must be honest and complete. All parts of your application must be filled out and evidence must be supplied where requested. Your application is carefully examined and reviewed, so check for accuracy.

Step-6

Polygraph Examination

The polygraph examination is used to confirm information obtained through the selection process. Candidates are encouraged to arrive early and avoid alcohol prior to the examination and be well rested. The best way to pass is to simply tell the TRUTH.

Step-7

Conditional Job Offer

Based on the results of steps 1-6, you may receive a conditional job offer at this time. Please note that the application materials for all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed by a screening panel to select the best qualified for continuing the hiring process.

Step-8

The Background Investigation

A background investigation includes a fingerprint check, full background check, submission of legal documents, review and verification of the candidate's employment history, credit or financial history, academic records, and personal references. All information will be verified by RPPD.

Step-9

Psychological Evaluation and Medical Examination/Physical

The psychological evaluation consists of two written examinations and an interview with a psychologist. You may also be called upon to take a polygraph exam. These are standard tests that assess both your physical and mental preparedness to meet the challenges that come with a career in law enforcement.

Step-10

Final Job Offer

Applicants who pass all sections of the police department's tests may be issued an offer of employment. You must accept or decline the offer with a specified timeframe. The entire process - from your initial application to entering the academy - may take several months. Visit East Bay Regional Park District's website to learn more about us!
